FILM FESTIVAL - The Nikkei of Norwalk

Orange Flower

The Nikkei of Norwalk got selected to the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) under a program called Tales from the Neighborhood!

LAAPFF Page

This is an intimate and personal documentary that I was lucky to be part of as one of the cinematographers. The film is about a Japanese school with 100 years of history in Norwalk, and we focused on how their dojo community built and shaped this school from its beginnings all the way to today.

We spent a lot of time at the school capturing its long history and the stories of various multi-generational families. We also had the incredible opportunity to archive and interview people who lived through the WW2 era and the concentration camps. The film offers not only a look at the impact of the school, but also the deeply personal stories from the people who make up that community.

The film is still in its festival run. I'll keep you updated on upcoming screenings!
