Miki

Miki is a bicultural filmmaker based in Los Angeles, originally from the countryside of Japan, Fukushima. In 2018, he made the move to the U.S. on his own, driven by a passion to deepen his knowledge of filmmaking.

Along the way, he explored various creative mediums, drawing inspiration from renowned artists like Agnes Varda, Edward Hopper, Terrence Malick, Yasujiro Ozu, and, of course, all the peers and the creative people at Vimeo and Pinterest. These influences shaped his distinctive approach to visual storytelling.

In 2021, Miki’s talent earned recognition at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where he showcased two short films—one as director and another as cinematographer.

Most recently, in June 2024, he shot his first feature film, which is set to release next year. This exciting milestone marks a new chapter in his journey, reflecting his growth as a filmmaker.

Miki strives to be a filmmaker who notices what others might overlook, bringing those subtle, unique moments to life on screen. It’s a perspective he hopes to continue refining, blending warmth and professionalism in every project he takes on.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

CINEMATOGRAPHY

In every project, my goal as a cinematographer is to make the audience forget they are watching a movie and instead feel like they are in there.

I believe this happens when each frame carries the weight — it can hold the viewer longer and pulls them deeper into the experience.

As a cinematographer, I strengthen that weight through framing, lighting, and color. With a foundation in gaffing and color grading, I’m able to fuse technical craft with emotional instinct.
