Does Older Movie Look Better?

Do you have a friend who always says, "They don't make films like this anymore!" as you watch the earlier Harry Potter movies?

As an industry tradition, rebooting movies and making sequels has been a long-standing trend in Hollywood. When I watched The Devil Wears Prada 2, an article about how the original film looks better caught my attention — it argued that films nowadays have bad lighting.

I don't think it is just about lighting. As someone who works in the industry, I do think film format makes people shoot differently, and when people talk about how much they like the look of older movies, I really think the format is doing the majority of the work.
